What is the history of Mediation Salisbury and District?
Our service started in 1985. At that time we dealt with family relations problems
following separation and divorce. Since then the service has expanded to offer our
professional mediation skills in a variety of areas.
What are the advantages of mediation?
In mediation everyone has an opportunity to express themselves and listen to others.
Mediation is not about 'winning' or 'losing', but about finding a path forward through
difficult circumstances that all parties can afterwards live and work with.
What if I don't want to meet the other person involved in the dispute?
Initially everyone has an opportunity to see a mediator alone, to find out about
mediation and explore whether it may be helpful to them. You do not have to see
anyone else at that first meeting.
Is mediation confidential?
We offer a confidential service. How this works will be explained to you at the
initial meeting.
Where are your offices?
In central Salisbury near to the local bus station and a car park.
Do you have disabled access?
We can accommodate wheelchairs and will make every effort to ensure clients with
particular difficulties whether physical or otherwise can be helped.
What actually happens in mediation?
Usually each person is given an individual appointment with a mediator that lasts
for about 45 minutes. At this meeting you will be asked about the issues that have
brought you to mediation, and the mediator will assess you for Legal Aid. If mediation
seems the way forward we will arrange a joint meeting with both parties where an
impartial mediator (or possibly two mediators) will help you to exchange information,
ideas and feelings.
